Igal A. Sebag, MD, FRCPC, FACC, FASE, is the Society's Vice-President of the Board of Directors, effective October 28, 2022.
Since joining the faculty of the Canadian Society of Echocardiography in 2004 after completing fellowship training in advanced echocardiography at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and dual residencies in internal medicine and cardiology at McGill University, Dr. Sebag’s central preoccupation has been to innovate the field of echocardiography in pursuit of the Society’s mission to expand knowledge and improve patient care. Over the last 20 years, he contributed to advance the field into new areas, particularly 3-D and strain imaging, by developing and applying these cutting-edge technologies, teaching them, and providing the means to disseminate them nationally and internationally.
Dr. Sebag contributed to the development and growth of our Society by serving on the Board of Directors for 6 years and on the Scientific Planning Committee of our Annual Meeting for 8 years. He continues to be a member of the Adult Echocardiography Area of Focused Competence (AFC) subcommittee. Within various committees of the CSE, ASE and the Royal College, Dr. Sebag has always been very involved in discussions and decision-making, always seeking to find the best possible consensus.
Dr. Sebag founded the annual Jewish General Hospital-McGill Scientific Symposium in Cardiovascular Imaging, now in its 13th year, as well as the McGill Fellowship Program in Integrated Cardiac Imaging. In 2010 and 2017, he received the David Stubington Teacher of the Year Award for outstanding teaching in the McGill cardiology training program. Dr. Sebag has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international scientific meetings on topics related to advances in echocardiography, particularly 3D and strain echocardiography.
Dr. Igal Sebag is a Professor of Medicine at McGill University and directs Non-Invasive Cardiology and fellowship programs in advanced echocardiography and integrated cardiac imaging at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.
In his current role as Vice-President, Dr. Sebag hopes to expand the role of the Society and lead efforts toward a conscious and creative society that connects with its members with the overarching goal of improving the lives of Canadians.
